All construction of the prosthetic hand was completed using SolidWorks CAD software. The fingers and pins were printed first in black, while the gauntlet and palm underwent re-designing. When the design changes were completed, the gauntlet and palm were printed in white (this gave the overall design a "panda" look). The fingers were attached to the palm with the 3D printed pins. Other material were also attached to the modified assembly in order to give it the proper functioning mechanics and mounting capabilities. This includes the threading of two different types of fishing line for the finger ligaments, velcro strips for mounting, elastic fabric for maneuverability of the gauntlet, and padding for the palm .
This project was based around a design that was already made by another engineer, Andreas Bastian. However, the files that were given online were .stl files. In order to modify them they needed to be converted into part files. This change does not keep the original assembly components, but rather slices the whole design into thousands of triangles to design around. This made the modification process harder, but not impossible.
